Writer’s block quite often hits when best man toasts or speeches of any type are involved. To help you combat that and get you started on that all important speech, here are a few ideas to get you started on writing. Just answer the questions that speak to you and then use that as a basis for your best man speech.

Often, just writing things down will be more than enough to jumpstart your brain, so give it a try.

  • How do you know the bride and groom? Is there an interesting story about how you met? Did you introduce them?
  • What crazy things has the groom done since you met him?
  • List three words that describe the groom. List three words that describe the happy couple’s relationship.
  • Why are you friends with the couple?
  • What was your first impression of the couple? What was your first impression of the groom? Of the bride?
  • What do you think the happy couple will be doing a year from now? 10 years? 50?
  • What are your thoughts on marriage? Is it a great thing, a bondage? Why are you glad for the groom?
  • If you are married or have been married, what advice can you give to the newlywed couple? Are there any tips that you can offer?

Using these questions, you can get a good start on your best man toast. Be sure to incorporate a couple of anecdotes from your past with the groom and even the bride, if you know her well. This adds a lot of interest to the speech and people will be far more interested.
